Imani Powell is a Harlem native who studied art at Sarah Lawrence. As an artist/designer her illustrations and product designs have been featured in Wallpaper*, O, The Oprah Magazine, Essence and Hamptons.com. She has a line of illustrated notecards and journals titled The Young and the Stressless for Potter Style (Random House) and has designed illustrated candles for Bath& Body Works. She is co-founder of Spye Design, a Harlem based design studio. She says of Wash & Set : “My personal work playfully speaks to the way in which the people of the African Diaspora color the urbane by allowing our vibrant culture to spill over on to the concrete. Wash&Set is inspired by the vibrant patrons and employees of the Dominican owned beauty salons which add color and Latin flavor to Harlem. I work in photoshop, illustrator, mixed media and acrylic paint.”
