Ilse Gradwohl is known for her subtle and lyrical canvases. She was born in Gleisdorf, Austria, and studied visual arts in the Escuela Nacional de Pintura y Escultura “La Esmeralda,” and in the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. She received a scholarship from Fondo, Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, and was a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores, 1997-1999 and 2000-2002. She has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Mexico and the United States, and has lived in Mexico since 1973.
