Hiroshi Murata

Hiroshi Murata is a self-employed artist. Since his retirement as a Professor of Art at The College of New Jersey in 1991, Murata has been at work on paintings and numerous public commissions. Murata’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions in both Japan and the United States and he is the recipient of various grants and fellowships. Prior to his 19 year tenure at The College of New Jersey, Murata was an Associate Professor of Art at Western Michigan University.

Hiroshi Murata was educated at Rhode Island School of Design, BFA 1964, and Yale University School of Art and Architecture, MFA 1966.

His work has been exhibited widely in the United States and Japan, and is represented in many public and private collections.

His commissioned works include Paintings, Theater Curtians, Terrazzo Mosaic, Tile Murals, Marquetry Murals, and Metal Relief.

He resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
