Ghislaine Fremaux, of Washington, DC, completed her MFA degree in Drawing from Penn State in 2012. In 2005, she acquired her AA from Bard College at Simon’s Rock, at age eighteen, and her BFA from Tufts University with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in 2007. Fremaux’s large pastel drawings examine the nude, sexuality, essential selfhood, and corporeality. The hypertrophy and amplified color of her figures recall her New Orleans roots, citing the excess and flavor of the carnivalesque. Following her MFA graduation in 2012 Ghislaine was invited to teach in the Drawing and Painting program at the School of Visual Arts and is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Art where she her classes in figure drawing offers a larger discourse on the body and the notion of the embodied consciousness.
