Elizabeth Rhoades is passionate about painting on location, in the plein air tradition. Through keen observation and years of outdoor painting experience, she has learned to accurately capture the varied atmospheric and textural elements of her chosen landscapes. By depicting her scenes without human presence or intervention, she seeks to bring peace and tranquility to the viewer while simultaneously conjuring a sense of vitality through the bold use of color. “For me,” she says, “painting the landscape is a spiritual experience. In the landscape, I feel a connection to the powers and beauty of the natural world. It is an emotional thing, to be so moved by the shimmer of a reflection, the grace of a cloud, or the gesture of old growth.”
