Elen Feinberg began her studies at the Art Student’s League of New York before beginning her undergraduate work at Cornell University where she studied printmaking and painting in the College of Architecture, Art and Planning. She spent her junior year in Rome through the Tyler School of Art and completed her BFA in 1976. She was awarded the Department of Art Faculty Metal and was named Class Marshall. That fall, in 1976, she was awarded a full scholarship and teaching assistantship to Indiana University; she completed her MFA degree in 1978.
After completing her work at Indiana, Elen was offered a position at the University of New Mexico in the Department of Art and Art History. She has been part of this department since that time where she is a Regents’ Professor, Presidential Teaching Fellow, and Burlington Research Fellow.
Over the past thirty years, Elen has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at galleries in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, and San Francisco, to name several. She has also exhibited abroad, in Italy, Hungary, England, Malta and Austria. Elen’s work has been included in several museum shows, both solo and group, in the US. Articles and reviews of her work have appeared in books, newspapers, and magazines throughout the states and abroad. In addition, she has been invited to lecture at numerous universities and venues in the US and abroad.
Elen has been the recipient of numerous awards, including: a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a Fulbright Scholars Award, an Ingram Merrill Foundation Award, a Ruth Chenven Foundation Award, the Basil H. Alkazzi Award, and many others.
She has also been the recipient of numerous Artist-in-Residency Fellowships which include: The MacDowell Colony, The Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Montalvo Center for the Arts, The Roswell Museum and Art Center, and The Bundeskranzlerant Federal Chancellery.
Elen resides in Albuquerque where she teaches and does her studio work.
