Dan Kvitka’s received a degree in Industrial Design from the Arts Center in Pasadena, California in 1977. He now works in Portland, Oregon. Kvitka relates, “the immediacy of the lathe, the intensity of hollow work and the striking almost shocking beauty of exotic wood is where I find balance. The significance of the vessel, both functional and decorative, had for millennia attached us to who we are and to where we have come from. Working in wood creating vessels gives me a sense of place within this history and I find the exploration exceptionally exciting.” Kvitka is represented in the public collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Smithsonian Institution’s, Renwick Gallery in Washington D.C., and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
