Illustrator, author, and animator Christoph Niemann’s charming and deceptively simple work often combines line drawing or brushwork with physical objects. Central to his Sunday Sketches, weekly drawings he publishes on social media, is humor; the cleverly arranged compositions turn a red pencil into a megaphone or a splayed book into a cat’s whiskers. Niemann conducts his practice with the viewer’s subjectivity and intelligence in mind, stating, “The great joy of art…is that you realize that you have something in you…This is the amazing, life-affirming effect that art can have… Letting yourself become aware…so you might look at your own thinking differently.”
