Based on the Indigenous Plains tradition of ledger art with a twenty-first century twist, Chris Pappan’s works “confront the dominant culture’s distorted perceptions of Native peoples while proclaiming that ‘we are still here!’” His paintings and drawings approach Indigenous peoples’ experiences with strong emotion and photographic detail, showing a concern with the present, while looking at the past.
