Andisheh Avini

Iranian-American artist Andisheh Avini was born in 1974 in New York, where he resides. He works in painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture, drawing deeply upon his Iranian heritage and incorporating Persian traditions such as calligraphy, peacock feathers, carpets, and marquetry into his art. His works—often large, geometric abstractions— reflect a globalized, dispersed society and our contemporary multicultural experiences. Avini has exhibited his art in Basel, New York City, and Miami Beach, among other places.

“I was born and raised here,” Avini says in reference to the United States, “but closely held on to my heritage. When these two worlds collide, that’s when the art happens. It gets strange and interesting, and it can be beautiful and chaotic.”
