Amy Laugesen specializes in the creation of mixed media sculpture and public art. Her fragmented equine abstracts create a statement housed in both an ancient and contemporary context. “The intention of my work is to capture the essence, movement and story of my subject into the sculptural forms I create.”
Her works reflects a deep connection with horses. “As a metaphor the horse symbolizes power, grace, nobility, strength, endurance and freedom which I integrate into classical yet contemporary forms. With a nod toward ancient artifacts of countless civilizations, my sculptures intentionally appear as relics, treasures to honor the profound age-old human relationship with these magnificent creatures.”
Amy completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Boston School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University. She is an Affiliate Member of the National Sculptors Guild in Loveland, Colorado.
Her work has been included in notable exhibitions including Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale, National Western Stock Show; Center for Innovation Creates MSU Denver Virtual Incubator and Exhibition; Creatures, Zip 37 Gallery Invitational Exhibition in Denver; Sculptural Dimensions, Contemporary Sculpture by Significant Colorado Artists; Republic Plaza Denver, CO; Hayden Herd, Hayden Heritage & Spirit of the American West, Solo Display, Yampa Valley Regional Airport, Hayden, CO; Creative Capitol, Metro Denver & Boulder Colorado Exhibition, Denver International Airport and Colorado State Capitol, Office of the Lt.
