Josette Urso, American watercolor painter, was the invited guest of ART in Embassies for the period November 15 through 19, 2004. The artist held three days of painting classes with a group of students from Reyum Art School in Phnom Penh that involved two in-class sessions and one trip where she encouraged the students to paint from nature. She presented her work in slides at the Royal University of Fine Arts, where she also discussed her life as an artist in the United States. An exhibition of Urso’s work at the Embassy stirred up lively discussion from the guests including renowned Cambodian artists and government officials who had never before been involved in the cultural programming of the U.S. Embassy.
