French American painter Reginald Marsh conveyed the frenzy of twentieth-century urban life in his renderings of New York City’s Coney Island, subways, and ship harbors, plus marginalized groups such as women and those experiencing homelessness. He is regarded as an American Scene painter, one of a number of American artists who portrayed specific regions of the country in a realistic style.
