Don Long was a photojournalist at the Richmond Times-Dispatch. This photograph appeared in that newspaper on January 16, 1981, and shows a march sponsored by the Virginia Civil Rights Coalition to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday. This was reminiscent of Dr. King’s own march to Selma, Alabama, which contributed to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
