Matt Bollinger

Matt Bollinger creates emotionally complex, visually arresting narrative scenes of working-class subjects reminiscent of his upbringing in suburban Kansas City, Missouri. His paintings depict mundane activities, such as watching television, pumping gas, or pausing during a shift, often striking a melancholy note through careful attention to posture, facial expression, and atmospheric color. “Pushing the paint around became a way to construct a world, develop a character, and tell a story…I want to live in the world of the work and return there again and again,” he explained.
